Case Studies > Grounds Maintenance - Tewkesbury Borough Council

Tewkesbury Borough Council covers an area of approximately 160 square miles.

Ubico took on the grounds maintenance work on behalf of the council in April 2015, transferring all existing staff into the company, and servicing between 300 and 320 acres throughout the borough.

We employ a small team that is primarily responsible for:

  • Mowing
  • Strimming
  • Hedge cutting
  • Shrub maintenance
  • Tree planting and maintenance
  • Sports field marking and maintenance
  • Cemetery maintenance

These routine works are carried out in line with a works schedule which is agreed with the council in order to enable them to manage resident's expectations. On average, grass cutting is carried out on each area of land twelve times a year.

In most instances, sports pitches are maintained and marked out annually, however this varies dependant on the customer's requirements and budget.

As well as the routine works listed, the service also plays a role in supporting a number of community groups throughout the year, such as the Tewkesbury in Bloom group and Friends of Victoria Garden. We have excellent working relationships with these groups and assist with their campaigns by grass cutting and tidying up prior to judging days, open days and fund raising events. Tewkesbury won the Britain in Bloom Gold Award in 2014 and is now one of seven towns nationally selected out of over one thousand entrants to take part in the 2015 final.

We are proud to play a supporting role to local town and parish councils. The high standards we maintain helps encourage the use of local sports facilities and consequently has a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of the borough's residents.

All staff members are fully trained and competent in manual handling and work in accordance to industry approved risk assessments and safe systems of working. The whole team holds a National Proficiency Test Certificate (NPTC) in the use of chemicals and dangerous machinery (such as chainsaws). We also have a fully qualified tree surgeon amongst our workforce.

To ensure the safety of not only our employees, but also members of the public, our supervisors carry out regular, un-announced quality checks to ensure that our teams are working safely and to a high standard.
